GCC Printers Adds Speed and Image Technology Enhancements to Elite 21 Series, at No Extra Cost

All Elite 21 printers will now include the PrintFast Module (PFM), a computer chip that provides hardware acceleration of the printing of image data - including photographs, graphics, GIF and JPEG files - within a document. According to Kevin Curran, chief executive officer of GCC Printers, the PrintFast Module contains specialized circuitry that performs image printing functions several times faster than the main PowerPC processor can on its own using standard software.

"By assisting the PowerPC with these functions, the PrintFast accelerator provides a significant boost to performance on image-rich documents," Curran explained.

Another significant new feature is edge-to-edge printing: all Elite 21 printers can now print all the way to the top, bottom, left and right edges of the page, extending the maximum printable area to a full 8.5 by 14 inches. Previously, image data closer than approximately one-tenth of an inch to the edge of the page would not be printed. The new capability allows "full bleed" printing, or images printed out to page edges without margins being imposed, which is unusual in a laser printer, Curran explained.

GCC's Elite 21 Series workgroup printers, the company's fastest and most flexible, also feature a high-speed 21 page-per-minute print engine, 1200-by-1200 dpi resolution, 16 to 64 MB of RAM that is expandable to 256 MB, and 10/100 BaseT Ethernet for easy cross-platform networking.
